John 4:24 NKJV
"God is a Spirit and those that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth."
The Hebrew word for worship is SHAKAH.
SHAKAH means "as we give attention to God from the inner chambers of our heart, He promises to devour all our enemies."
The essence of the word Shakah or worship in Hebrew is that it's a VERB not Noun. That calls for our attention that it's an activity that must be always done.
Meaning worship is in doing, a continual activity not something tangible. To make it clear it's not an object like a guitar or even church building that we can gaze at and think we're worshipping God. No, neither it's singing songs nor playing instruments as many Christians think.
Those things can be involved in worship but true worship must begun from our hearts. Unless our heart is right before God and completely surrendered true worship cannot be birthed.
In 2 Samuel 24:24. David says," Neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing.".
Worship will always cost us, pain us. If David being king could sacrifice and go through pain then what about us ? That means worship and sacrifice go together. Know that if we have never sacrificed or gone through pain we have never worshiped God.
For Example, when others sleep you sacrifice your sleep and pray, when family or friends go out to enjoy, you sacrifice and pray. That's how we can tell God if we are truly worshipping Him. Whatever has occupied our hearts today; whether money, people, property, spouse, children, etc.. in simple words we are worshipping that.
Leftovers cannot be given to God, it's not worship but contempt of God. But the beautiful thing we notice about the word SHAKAH is that, God is saying that, if you worship me then I will devour your enemies.
Worship can only be done from the heart. That's why the Lord Jesus says," Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me."
Here the door is our heart not the door of our home. So, when we truly worship God not only do we give Him the right to occupy all the areas of our heart but, also we acknowledge Him by our activities.
Every activity would be centered around Him. Be it spending time, tithing, offerings, attachments, preferences etc.
But if we are drawn more towards family, friends, wealth not that it's bad but if we are consumed by them then we are worshipping them not God.
God can pray and praise Himself because our Lord Jesus as a mediator is doing that. But the only thing God cannot do is worship. For there's no one greater than Him. And that's why He made us in His image and likeness so we can worship Him in the way that He wants, by His Spirit as in Holy Spirit indwelling us and in His character.
PRAYER:
FATHER HELP US BY YOUR SPIRIT TO WORSHIP YOU IN THE WAY YOU REQUIRE FROM US. FOR IT PLEASES YOU, THAT WE WORSHIP YOU AND ITS FOR THIS REASON YOU CREATED US IN YOUR IMAGE AND LIKENESS SO, THAT WE CAN WORSHIP YOU IN TRUTH. BY YOUR WISDOM AND REVELATION WHAT WAYS WE CAN INCORPORATE IN OUR LIFESTYLE TO ADORE YOU, PLEASE YOU AND BE IN COMPLETE REVERENCE OF YOUR DEITY, TOTALLY SURRENDERED AND SEE HOW YOU DESTROY OUR ENEMIES GRANTING VICTORIES TO US AS WE OBSERVE TO BE IN CONTINUAL STATE OF WORSHIP, IN JESUS MIGHTY NAME. AMEN!
