Proverbs 3:19 (CJB)
“Adonai by wisdom founded the earth, by understanding he established the heavens.”
The above verse will be a foundational verse for this entire series of “Understanding”, and as we read in the previous blog about marriages being ruined due to lack of understanding. Let’s see what does the Bible says about understanding in the area of marriage.
Proverbs 16:16 (NKJV)
“How much better to get wisdom than gold, and to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.”
Here we read the latter part of the verse which says, it is better to choose understanding rather than silver. Couples exchange of gifts right from their courtship days till the day they are married and beyond. Exchanging gifts or surprising your partner is a good idea and much needed to keep each other’s company to enhance personal relationship bond, but in fulfilling the former, we miss on working the latter theory relating to stress, mental health & emotion which leads to bitterness, frustration and even depression among the couples.
Not only in the area of marriage, even in your family, society, work place ‘understanding’ plays a key role in handling critical situations of life. Christians have always been good in accusing the enemy (devil) for every odd things happening in their life, rather than working on it and improvising their lifestyle instead of grumbling about it.
Proverbs 14:29 (AMPC)
“He who is slow to anger has great understanding.”
Anger has always been a reason of fights, arguments, retaliation, revenge, depression, separation, divorce, broken relationship when it comes to finances, property, etc; A person who is slow to anger is known as a person of great understanding who saves lot of unwanted and uninvited troubles to come. A good and peaceful marriage or relationship is an outcome of understanding which is missing in this generation.
Prayer :- Lord, give me an understanding heart towards every awkward situation that comes my way. May I learn to honour everyone in my life and family specially my spouse and children.Give me grace to choose wisdom and understanding above gold and silver. May your peace dwell in me and within me in Jesus mighty name in pray. Amen !
