JOHN 13:16 NKJV
MOST ASSUREDLY, I SAY TO YOU, A SERVANT IS NOT GREATER THAN HIS MASTER; NOR IS HE WHO IS SENT GREATER THAN HE WHO SENT HIM.
IF WE ARE TO APPLY THIS TEACHING IN OUR LIVES WE NEED TO EMBRACE HUMILITY. AND RECOGNIZE THAT WE ARE HERE TO SERVE A HIGHER PURPOSE. WE ARE NOT ABOVE ANYONE AND THAT EVERYONE HAS VALUE.TREAT OTHERS WITH KINDNESS AND RESPECT, REGARDLESS OF THEIR STATUS OR POSITION.
LIVING OUT THE TEACHING THAT “A SERVANT IS NOT GREATER THAN HIS MASTER” CAN BE CHALLENGING DUE TO SEVERAL FACTORS.
PRIDE: IT'S NATURAL TO WANT, TO BE RECOGNIZED AND PRAISED, FOR OUR EFFORTS. HUMILITY REQUIRES US TO PUT ASIDE OUR EGO AND SERVE WITHOUT SEEKING PERSONAL GLORY.
JESUS BEING GOD WASHED THE FEET OF HIS DISCIPLES, MOTHER TERESA IN HUMILITY SERVED THE LEPERS.
2.SELFISHNESS: WE OFTEN PRIORITIZE OUR OWN NEEDS AND DESIRES OVER THOSE OF OTHERS. TRUE SERVANTHOOD MEANS PUTTING OTHERS FIRST, WHICH CAN BE DIFFICULT.
3.RESISTANCE TO AUTHORITY: SUBMITTING TO AUTHORITY, ESPECIALLY WHEN WE DISAGREE, CAN BE TOUGH, IT REQUIRES TRUST AND RESPECT FOR THOSE IN LEADERSHIP.
4.SACRIFICE: SERVING OTHERS OFTEN INVOLVES PERSONAL SACRIFICE, WHETHER IT’S TIME, RESOURCES,OR COMFORT, THIS CAN BE CHALLENGING TO MAINTAIN CONSISTENTLY.
DESPITE THESE CHALLENGES, STRIVING TO LIVE OUT THIS TEACHING CAN LEAD TO PERSONAL GROWTH AND A MORE FULFILLING LIFE.
PRAYER: FATHER GOD MAY WE LEARN TO BE HUMBLE IN LIFE ESPECIALLY IN OUR CALLING, MAY WE LEARN TO WORK SELFLESSLY WITHOUT ANY SELFISH MOTIVES, MAY WE NOT RESIST BUT LEARN TO SUBMIT AND SURRENDER OURSELVES TO THE ONES YOU HAVE PLACED US UNDER, MAY EVERY SACRIFICE BE WORTHWHILE IN YOUR EYES O LORD. IN JESUS NAME WE PRAY AMEN AMEN AND AMEN.
