Galatians 5: 22 – 23
But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [[f]that can bring a charge].
As a tree is known by its fruit, so is a man known by his character. Your biggest witness is not those who meet and greet you in the church or on the streets, but your family members. Can a husband witness his wife in the area of character? Can a child witness his parents in the area of character? The above verse is a profound verse when it comes character building in a Christian life.
As we read the above verse keenly, we learn about every fruit (character) that is mentioned as to what a Christian need to adapt. Very few of us are fascinated in transforming our character at the earliest, unfortunately character building has remained untouched in many people’s life. Sadly, once I heard a sister telling me, I was so God-fearing, when I newly joined a church as a believer, at the start all was good, but when I started knowing the members, that broke my heart and discouraged me in my Christian walk. We love to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, hardly have we understood that we are the “fifth gospel” to the people watching us. Our prayers are hindered & remains unanswered because we are not yet transformed to our newer version in Christ Jesus. These days as we use our smart phones, even though its old, at regular intervals we receive the message to upgrade its software version so we can enjoy newly integrated features. Likewise, if we do not upgrade our lives, through God’s Word and its characteristic, no matter how good one can be and preach and pray. It’s a failure.
We learn to understand good and bad as we grow, and judge things accordingly with respect to moral principles. Even our education system teaches about manners, respect, politeness and so on., but none can help you to build your character except with the grace of God and His strength.
2 Corinthians 12:10
“So for the sake of Christ, I am well pleased and take pleasure in infirmities, insults, hardships, persecutions, perplexities and distresses; for when I am weak []in human strength], then am I [truly] strong (able, powerful in divine strength).”
No Christian is limited in Christ, neither we stand victims for our repercussions. Nothing is impossible with God, if we stand with Him. As Apostle Paul declares in the above verse, that we are truly strong, able, powerful in divine strength and can overcome every of our weakness (character wise) wherever we had failed and unable to achieve. We have never been able to maintain the Fruit of the Holy Spirit for longer time in our spiritual walk and the reason is we have tried to do it with our own ability and strength. Allow the Lord to intervene in our area of character so we can be victorious.
Prayer :- Lord, make me a man / woman of character. Make I be the light that is on the hill. Help me to arise and shine in Jesus name.
