Luke 18:1-8 NKJV
[1] Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, [2] saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. [3] Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ [4] And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, [5] yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’ ” [6] Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. [7] And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? [8] I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”
As in the previous blog we read about being persistent, I would like you to ponder over the above scriptures which speaks about a widow lady persistently approaching a judge to get justice. This lady uses a principle which proves to be effective in gaining results to her plea. We have no idea how many times and for how long she must be approaching the unjust judge for her hearing. It does not speaks about how many times she prayed before going to him, but surely she persisted in meeting him, showing her face and pleading for her case which the judge was forced to answer her finally one day.
We also read in the Luke 21 : 1 - 4 a poor widow putting in two mites in the offering box which caught the attention of Jesus, who was observing everyone. Now this poor widow had not given an offering for the first time, but she was a regular sower/giver for God's Kingdom, now even when she did not have anything apart from two mites, she gave because that was a regular practise and she persisted in doing so. You see the result was outstanding not because she gave all she had but she kept on giving even when she did not have. A person who has, can always give, the true test comes when he/she lacks and yet gives. Your persistent action will catch the eye of God more than men.
I want to share a real life testimony of a Pastor who shared with me, when he had started his ministry he wanted to register it as a Trust and due to less funds to pay the Lawyer's fees, he preferred to approach the Charity Commissioner office by himself. He filled the form and provided all the necessary documents and when he was summoned to the commissioner office to get an approval, the officer rebuked him by saying though being a Non - Christian (as his name sounded) how come you dare apply for a Christian Trust registration and they disapproved his petition. This pastor did not give up, he went almost every week once and presented himself in the Commissioner Office requesting them to approve his Trust and after 8 long months of waiting, they finally approved his papers and the Trust was registered.
At times we don't feel like praying but we still pursue, we feel dry, we feel bored, we are busy, we feel lazy, we are sick on our bed and we still pray, now that's persistency. You can use this principle to achieve your goals and results, whether spiritually or physically (but patiently).
Prayer - Father in the name of Jesus, may I receive your Grace for persistency to do everything in life without giving up easily and getting frustrated. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and make me an overcomer in Jesus name.
